Learn how to paint an oil portrait from life. Starting with a gray monochrome, we will advance to a limited palette and finally paint in full color. Setting up a model with direct lighting, we will look for the black and white values that define volume and the illusion of three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface. Then we will translate these values into color tones. Students will practice brushwork and color mixing as well. A supply list is available online or by calling LCE. A $35 model fee is payable to the instructor at the first class. Catherine Ezell teaches private art lessons in her studio and classes and workshops.
